5 types of window blinds

window blinds

Doesn’t matter whether you’re living in a house in the suburbs, a traditional urban flat or even a shed in the woods, having more privacy in your kitchen or bedroom is always a great thing. That is where various window treatments come into play. There are a lot of types of blinds, for example: day and night blinds, roller blinds, vertical blinds, pleated blinds and some other.

Particularly, day night blinds which can definitely keep snooping eyes from looking into your house windows. You could say that in recent years they have definitely risen in popularity and it’s not difficult to see why.

They are made from various materials like plastic, faux-wood, as well as metal and come in different stylings, which allows homeowners to easily implement them in whatever way they prefer.

In this article, I will talk about the 5 main types of window blinds and what main benefits they bring to people.

Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds have long been a popular choice among homeowners worldwide. Despite what the name suggests, experts say that these blinds have not come from Venice, but in fact were brought in from Persia back in the 18th century.

Since those times, they were always a popular choice for window treatments. To describe them, they are a series of stacked blinds in a row, with horizontal slats about 5 centimeters wide connected together with the help of a strip of fabric.

To adjust them to your liking, simply pull the cords on their sides in order to rotate the slats and place them in the appropriate position. Quite often they are made from wooden materials or faux-wood, however, other alternatives are present as well.

They are most commonly used to cover bedroom or kitchen windows.

Mini blinds

Mini blinds in a way are a loose variation of the venetian blinds that I mentioned earlier. They have very similar functionality, as well as styling and form, however, one noticeable difference is the thinner slats that they employ.

Where venetian blinds implement 5 centimeter slats, here those are around 2-3 centimeters. This means that when they are completely close, practically zero light comes through them.

Also unlike venetian blinds, they are much more often made from metal materials like aluminum, which makes them a far cheaper option than those blinds made from wood entirely.

Lastly, they’re much easier to clean. Even more so if you choose what are called micro blinds, which are only a centimeter apart with their slats.

Vertical Blinds

As the name already suggests, vertical blinds are composed of a series of vertical slats hanging on a track. Quite often they are made from metal materials like aluminum and other lightweight composites.

Similarly to venetian blinds, you can adjust the slats to control the amount of lights coming to your room and what to block out.

It’s said to be the best option for those that have a sliding door for their balconies, kitchen or living rooms.

Panel Track Blinds

Panel Track variants are another variation of the vertical blinds mentioned above. They are most often made from cloth slats and contain a mix of shades and blinds. They are considered a separate type of blinds because the slats here can be controlled independently allowing even more light control and precision.

You can split them, turn them in different directions and pretty much do anything you like to find the right fit.

Smart Blinds

Technology in recent years has advanced immensely in recent years with the invention of smartphones, smart TVs and even easily controlled home appliances.

The same applies for day night blinds. Most of them are controlled via a remote control and app or even your voice, so you can pretty much make any adjustment you want just by speaking with your Google Assistant or Apple’s Siri.

Naturally, these variants come with a much higher price tag. However, if you’re willing to automate your household to the maximum, this will be the best option for you.

All in all

It’s fair to say that blinds are a very advantageous option for homeowners looking for the appropriate window treatment. Doesn’t matter whether you choose venetian blinds, mini, panel track, vertical or even highly advanced smart ones, few other covers can offer this much control over your home lighting.
