The 5 Most Common Laptop Issues And Solutions
Here are The 5 Most Common Laptop Issues And Solutions
When Your Laptop Sluggishes
Laptops typically slow down as a result of having too many files and programmes saved on them as a result of regular use. To avoid this issue, we recommend that you free up some hard drive space by deleting temporary files, keeping your desktop organized, and getting rid of programmes you don’t use on a regular basis. You could also transfer old files to an external hard drive to improve the performance of your laptop.
Shutdowns on command
Overheating is most likely the cause, which is usually caused by dust buildup in the case and around the fan. If your laptop is frequently shutting down, try thoroughly cleaning it to remove dust. The most basic method is to blow air into the side vent. Make sure the laptop is completely turned off before doing this. If that doesn’t work, you can get a laptop cooling fan.
The battery continues to drain
Laptops typically have a battery life of more than 4-5 hours if used continuously. However, if your laptop’s battery is quickly depleted, the first thing you should do is reduce the number of open tasks. This places additional strain on the battery. To avoid further draining your laptop battery, avoid keeping multiple windows open and disable the Bluetooth option. Finally, enable ‘Energy Saving’ mode and keep the brightness low. If you’re using Windows XP, go to ‘Settings’ and select “Power Options” from the control panel. To adjust the brightness on a Macbook, go to ‘Settings’ and search for “Energy Saver” in System Preferences.
Connecting to WiFi networks is not possible
If you’ve been experiencing this problem, make sure your laptop’s aeroplane mode is turned off and WiFi is turned on. Then, reinstall the network adapter drivers. All you have to do is…
a. On your desktop, right-click ‘My Computer’ or ‘My PC’ and select ‘Manage.’ Then, select ‘Device Manager.’
b. Next, select ‘Network Adapters’ and look for your wireless adapter under this menu. Right-click it and select ‘Enable’ or ‘Install.’
c. After that, click ‘Scan for hardware changes,’ and your drivers will be re-installed.
The battery does not charge
If your laptop battery stops charging, you’ll need to replace it even if your laptop is still under warranty, because batteries aren’t covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. If your laptop’s battery isn’t removable, you’ll have to replace it.
There are numerous other issues that can arise in a laptop, particularly after a year or two of the manufacturer’s warranty period has expired. This includes motherboard failure, hard drive failure, LCD failure, processor failure, and so on. You don’t have to worry about spending money on repairs at the last minute if your laptop is covered by an extended warranty plan. The Onsitego Extended Warranty plan covers everything that a standard manufacturer’s warranty covers and begins immediately after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

Overheating
Symptoms include computer crashes and freezes.
Clean out the air vents, place filtered material over the inhalation vent, or update the BIOS.
Overheating can degrade your laptop’s performance and frequently result in a slew of problems, such as system crashes and freezing. Every computer generates a lot of heat, but due to their small size and lack of ventilation, laptops are especially prone to overheating. Excessive dust can clog air vents, preventing your system from receiving cold air to cool the CPU.
Overheating problems are frequently resolved by simply cleaning out these air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner.
Keyboard Symptoms: Missing or Loose Keys
Change the keyboard.
The keyboard on any laptop takes the brunt of the abuse, whether from typing or spilled coffee. As a result, keys become dislodged or worn out on a regular basis. Fortunately, laptop manufacturers’ support pages include simple online guides for replacing keyboards; simply type “keyboard replacement” into the search bar or consult the manufacturer’s knowledge base.
Stuck Pixels Symptom: Green or red dots on the screen of your laptop
Solution: Massage dead pixels away.
Nonconforming or stuck pixels on an otherwise functional laptop LCD can be an annoyance. The pixels are usually green or red and do not light up properly with the other pixels on the display. Unfortunately, manufacturers will not replace an LCD for one or two stuck pixels; in fact, some require 10 to 18 dead pixels before taking action.
There is, however, a solution. Take a soft material, such as a felt cloth, and gently rub it around the stuck pixel in a circular motion. This trick usually causes the pixel to light up properly.
Hold your finger in place for up to two minutes once you’ve found the right location and pressure to illuminate the pixel, and you’ll have no more stuck pixel.
Symptoms of a System Crash: The notebook will not boot up
Solution: Take out the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure. Start Checkdisk.
When their computers refuse to boot up, most people panic. However, most of the time, the issue is as simple as a missing system file or a bad sector on the hard drive. To find out, remove your hard drive according to the manufacturer’s instructions and place it in a USB enclosure–these are external housings for internal hardware.
Connect the USB cable from the enclosure to an open USB port on a working PC. If the file system is still intact, the hard drive should appear as an external drive and you should be able to transfer data to and from it. Then, open a DOS prompt (Start/Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt) and type in X: where X is the letter of your external drive. Then press the Enter key. Now, enter “chkdsk /f.” If your system prompts you to unmount the drive, type Y and then press Enter.
Your notebook will now display some information about your drive (file system type and serial number) before scanning it and correcting any errors it finds. An error report will be generated, allowing you to see what changes were made to the drive. If everything went well, you’ll be fine once you plug the hard drive back into the crashed notebook and turn it on.
