What is the IIM Selection Criteria 2022 and how are placements in Top IIMs?

The result of CAT 2021 will be released tentatively in the second week of January. For admission to IIMs candidates must have started to prepare for further steps. To get into any IIMs, students need to appear in CAT.

This year out of 2.30 Lakhs MBA aspirants a total number of 1.92 candidates have appeared for CAT 2021. Top IIMs are IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozhikode & IIM Indore. The whole selection process includes Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion & Personal Interview Process (GD-PI).

Renowned IIM like Bangalore prefer candidates with work experiences whereas Calcutta, Ahmedabad provides admission to a large share of fresher candidates. IIMs considers several parameters when it comes to admission, 10+2 level & Graduation score, extra components Gender diversity together with academic history.

Shortlist based CAT Score:

Top IIMs conduct MBA admissions on the basis of CAT score. CAT comprises Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR).

The exam is conducted in an Online mode with three slots of varying difficulty. The minimum sectional cutoffs of IIM Ahmedabad are stagnant at 70%. Sometimes candidates with a high CAT percentile can not get into IIM as IIMs reject students at the very final stage.

To get a call from IIMs like IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, General category candidates need to peg down their percentile at 99th for the next round after meeting all the sectional cutoff at CAT. Though the new IIMs shortlist candidates who have scored at CAT with the percentile ranging between 90-99.

WAT & PI

Optimistic aspirants have already started their preparations for the IIMs admission process that includes WAT, GD & PI. Shortlisted students will be carried out in the next stages. The key to getting done the WAT is to scroll down all the current affairs.

The topics are more about the critical analysis of current surroundings which are mainly opinion-based so that if a student wants to share their views that are different from a certain number of people then they can do that.

Final Stage: Conversion

The work experience matters to several IIMs like at IIM Bangalore only a few freshers get a chance in it as the institute prefers to shortlist candidates with work experience. Work experience gives a benefit to GD & PI sessions too, discussion can be done regarding the aspirants’ works related issues. IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad & IIM Lucknow have allowed freshers students for admission but on a large scale, it is preferable students with working experience are more invited while IIM Indore does not demand students with work experience.

Apart from these, there are Gender Diversity Components for both males & females. A female student gets 4 marks extra in Gender Diversity Components that means a girl candidate can score 16 marks less but she will be given a composite score equal to a male student coming with the same academics.
