In the early part of the month, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, but the first smartphone that uses the chip is already available. The chipset will power many Android handsets in the years to come.
As expected, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 88 powered Xiaomi Mi 11 handset is now officially available in China. We will be looking at its specifications, features, price range, and availability in India here.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Overview
It is very rare for a leading smartphone manufacturer to launch only a single device nowadays. But Xiaomi did that with the Mi 11 launch event. Before the launch event, there were rumors of a Mi 11 Pro device, but presently only the Mi 11 features Snapdragon 888.
Design and Display
The Mi 11 features a 6.81-inch DotDisplay that supports a resolution of 3200 by 1440 pixels. The curved AMOLED panel features E4 light-emitting material, which should result in a peak brightness of 1,500 nits.
In addition, this phone supports a 120Hz refresh rate, while the touch sampling rate has been increased from 50Hz to 480Hz. The screen has been protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Similarly, the Mi 11 has received an A+ from Display Mate for its display technology.
For the rear panel, users can choose between an anti-glare frosted glass or a vegan leather version. The glass variant weighs less but is thicker.
On the Mi 11, there is an embedded fingerprint scanner that Xiaomi claims can monitor the heart rate and can monitor the phone’s battery, however, Xiaomi did not provide any details on the new feature.
Performance and Memory
It has been mentioned previously that the phone’s processor is Qualcomm’s latest flagship microprocessor, the Snapdragon 888 for smartphones. It utilizes an 8-core variant of the Arm Cortex X1 chip which employs Arm Cortex A18 and Cortex A55 cores.
In addition, the SD888 now comes with an integrated 5G modem to further enhance efficiency. The new combination increases performance and power efficiency by 35% and 20% respectively. Furthermore, it has an Adreno 660 GPU, which is 35% faster than its predecessor.
This phone comes with VC LiquidCool Technology to keep the battery cool. Xiaomi offers 2 RAM options, 8GB and 12GB. The latter comes with 128GB of internal storage while users can choose between 128GB and 256GB of internal storage.
In addition, MIUI 12.5 ships preinstalled with the Mi 11, and Xiaomi promises that the new UI will consume less power and RAM.
Camera
There are three cameras on this phone, the primary camera has a resolution of 108MP, and the secondary cameras have resolutions of 5MP and 2MP.
The 13MP wide-angle camera is accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide camera with a 123 degree Field of View and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Additionally, the camera is equipped with a 50mm telephoto macro lens.
The front of the phone includes a 20 MP selfie camera that fits inside a circular cutout on the left-hand side.
More on the specs
The Xiaomi Mi 11 comes with a 4,600mAh battery that can handle almost all of its tasks. It supports 55W TurboCharge charging, which can charge the device fully in just 45 minutes. In addition, users can also enjoy 50W wireless charging and 10W wireless reverse charging.
The device is available without a wired charger and with one for the same price. Take notice, Apple (and maybe every other manufacturer who is likely to follow suit).
Besides its dual speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, the Mi 11 sports an IR blaster and multifunctional NFC. Additional features for Mi 11 include an external microphone jack and an IR blaster.
